US Open: Carreno Busta wins to set up Khachanov clash in round four

Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 12 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the US Open by defeating Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 18 seed, in four sets in New York CIty on Friday evening.
The 15th ranked Carreno Busta, a two-time semi-finalist at Flushing Meadows, won 6-1, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5) to score his third consecutive four-set win this week.
The Spaniard, who won his first career Masters Series title in Montreal this year, ended the match in spectacular fashion with a tweener that De Minaur was unable to get back.
Earlier, the Spaniard had beaten Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem (7-5, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3) and edged out Kazakh Alexander Bublik (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (5)) in his first two matches at the US Open.
Carreno Busta takes 3-5 record against Khachanov into fourth round clash
Carreno Busta will play Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 27 seed, for a spot in the quarter-finals. Khachanov, who advanced when his opponent Jack Draper retired with an injury during the third set of their contest, leads the head-to-head between the two 5-3. He has won the last three encounters between the pair and has a 4-1 edge in matches on hardcourts.
