Wimbledon champion Rybakina upended by qualifier Burel in first round at US Open
France’s Burel will take on either Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck and American wildcard Venus Williams in the next round

Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was upended in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday, the Kazakh beaten 6-4, 6-4 by French qualifier Clara Burel, ranked No 131.
Rybakina is the sixth seed to go out of the women’s draw after Simona Halep (7), Daria Kasatkina (10), Jelena Ostapenko (16), Martina Trevisan (27) and Jil Teichmann (30).
Burel, ranked No 131, will face the winner of the match between Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck and seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams next.
