Stephens capitulates at US Open, sending Burel into second round
Clara Burel edged out Sloane Stephens 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 on Monday night. She’ll play Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 20 seed, in the next round

Frenchwoman Clara Burel edged out American Sloane Stephens 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 to reach the second round of the US Open in New York on Monday night.
Burel lost the first nine games inside 33 minutes, coming back from 6-0, 3-0 down to defeat Stephens. Stephens served for the match on two occasions, in the second and third sets.
Burel, ranked No 56, will face Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 20 seed, next.
