US Open: Qualifier Brouwer books spot in second round, beating Winston-Salem champion Mannarino
Gijs Brouwer won against Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday. He’ll play the winner of the match between Belgian David Goffin and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 26 seed, in the next round
Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Tuesday.
Brouwer, ranked No 181, will face the winner of the match between Belgian David Goffin and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 26 seed, next.
It is his first win in a major tournament.
This result is considered as an upset as Mannarino has won the last tournament of the US Open series on Saturday, in Winston-Salem.
