US Open: Andreescu makes second round, after she insisted to the umpire that she had to change her new outfit
Bianca Andreescu won against Harmony Tan 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 on Monday evening and will play the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 15 seed, and Croat Ana Konjuh in the next round
Canadian Bianca Andreescu advanced to the second round of the US Open by beating French wildcard Harmony Tan, the player who defeated Serena Williams at Wimbledon (6-0, 3-6, 6-1) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Monday.
Andreescu, ranked No 48 and 2019 winner, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 15 seed, and Croat Ana Konjuh next.
Andreescu got social media buzzing about this match when she blamed her outfit for losing the second set, and asked the umpire for permission to go and change it.
“It was just bothering me on some forehands, she said afterwards. I just felt like it was kind of coming up a bit. Obviously the wind didn’t help.”

The Canadian apologized for the words used while she was asking for this break. “I meant no disrespect with what I said to the umpire. I was trying to convince him to not take away that washroom break, because I know we only get two. He was very nice to say it was totally okay.”
“I could have definitely used a different choice of wording. So I apologize to anyone I disrespected. I love Nike and I hope I can be with them for the rest of my life. But, yeah.” Yeah, the dresse was unconvenient.
