Ekaterina Alexandrova edged out Viktoriya Tomova 6-7 (4), 6-0, 7-5 on Monday night and will face American wildcard Iva Jovic in the next round

Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 29 seed, reached the second round of the US Open by edging out Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 6-7 (4), 6-0, 7-5 in New York on Monday night.
Alexandrova, ranked No 31, will play American wildcard Iva Jovic next.
