US Open: Top seed Alcaraz moves into last 16, defeats Evans in entertaining encounter
Carlos Alcaraz won against Daniel Evans 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday evening and will face Italian Matteo Arnaldi in the next round
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, beat No 26 seed Daniel Evans 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Saturday evening.
Alcaraz, ranked No 1, will play Italian Matteo Arnaldi next.
Alcaraz is now the man with the most singles wins at the US Open after 15 matches (14 – level with Arthur Ashe in the Open era). He is through to the third round in New York for the third time in as many appearances.
Ahead of his victory, the 20-year-old Spaniard benefited from the abandonment of German Dominik Koepfer (6-2, 3-2) and won against South African Lloyd Harris (6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (4)).
Evans, ranked No 28, won against Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-2, 7-5) and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (1-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
