Serena’s Wimbledon conqueror Harmony Tan tests positive, misses US Open direct cut
Ranked No 115 in the world. Harmony Tan was looking to earn some more points this week to make the direct entry cut for US Open
France’s Harmony Tan, who shot to worldwide fame after shocking 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the first round of Wimbledon, has tested positive for Covid-19.
The positive result has only seen Tan withdraw from an ITF event in Latvia, but also hampers her chances to gain direct entry into the final Grand Slam on the tennis calendar.
The cut-off for entry into the US Open, which begins on August 29, is on Monday July 18, six weeks prior to the event.
The 24-year-old Tan, who is currently ranked 115th in the world, posted an update on her Instagram account about the same.
“Unfortunately, I tested positive for Covid-19. I feel symptoms and a lot of fatigue. I have to withdraw from the Challenger in Latvia this week” Tan said.
Harmony Tan, who went on to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon, will now need to await a main draw wild card or play the qualifying draw in New York.
