Schwartzman qualifies for US Open main draw in final appearance
The Argentine has qualified for the US Open main draw, after falling short in qualifying at the other three majors in 2024

On Thursday, Diego Schwartzman was triumphant over Vilius Gaubas (6-4 6-4), and successfully qualified for the US Open main draw. The Argentine did not drop a set in qualifying – also beating Andrea Pellegrino (7-5 6-3) and Thiago Agustín Tirante (7-5 6-4) – with Schwartzman previously falling in qualifying in the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon this year.
The main draw qualification will undoubtedly be even more emotional, with the major being the last appearance at the US Open in his career. The Argentine announced that he would be hanging up his racket at Buenos Aires in February 2025. Schwartzman is a two-time quarter-finalist in New York, having previously made the last eight in both 2017 and 2019 – losing to both Pablo Carreño Busta and Rafael Nadal, respectively.
The retiring Argentine will face Gael Monfils in round one on Monday, with the Frenchman putting forward an impressive performance in Cincinnati by beating world No 3 Carlos Alcaraz and making the quarter-finals.
