“In case you can find Court 5” – Rune salty about court allocation at US Open
World No 4 Holger Rune has expressed his displeasure at being allocated a far-flung court on day one of the US Open 2023
Holger Rune will enter a Grand Slam as the No 4 seed for the first time on Monday, but the Dane is not too happy about his court allocation early on in the tournament.
After the initial US Open schedule was released for men’s first round matches on day one, Rune has posted on his personal X account indicating displeasure with the court that the world No 4 has been assigned, saying:
“US Open site map. In case you can find court 5, this is where I play my first match Monday followed by 11:00.”
Clearly, the 20-year-old is disgruntled at not receiving a slot on one of the three stadium courts at Flushing Meadows.
Despite being seeded fourth for the first time in a major, Rune has not had a good time on the ATP Tour recently. The Dane is yet to win a match since losing in the Wimbledon quarter-finals 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-4 to Carlos Alcaraz.
Since then, Rune has lost in the first round of both the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters, being downed by Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald.
Will a lower court allocation be just what Rune needs to get some fire in his belly, and reclaim some of the competitive edge that propelled him to three titles in late 2022?
