Corentin Moutet equalled his career-best Grand Slam run this week, making it to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros before losing to No 2 seed Jannik Sinner.

Despite the loss – Moutet was up a set and a break before Sinner steadied to win in four – the Frenchman is taking a lot from his performance here in Paris.

“I’m happy. I played three good matches,” Moutet shared in his post-match press conference. “I beat some good players, I played some good matches, I held out physically. I had a good level of concentration.”

“I didn’t have any warning in the four matches, which doesn’t happen to me very often. There are a lot of good things.”

Moutet looking ahead already

Moutet hopes to springboard off his Roland-Garros momentum and continue his promising results in 2024. Already, the 25-year-old has returned to within five spots of his career-best ranking, jumping 23 positions from No 79 to No 56 in the world.

“Already my rank is going up,” he reflected. “I’m creeping closer to the rank I had before my injury, so that is an objective. It takes time, but I’m happy to be getting back there.

“It will facilitate the task for the coming tournaments. I will, at last, be able to play bigger tournaments and better players every week, and that’s what helps me to progress also.

“There’s still a lot of things to work on, and I’m super motivated for the rest of the season. The season is still long. There are still two Grand Slams and a lot of other tournaments. So, no, things are looking good for what’s to come next.”

Playing in the Olympic Games is a big focus for Moutet, with the Frenchman ensuring his qualification for the team thanks to his performance this week.
