Swiatek drops a set to Zheng but books spot in last eight at Roland-Garros
Iga Swiatek won against Qinwen Zheng 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-2 on Monday evening in Paris and will play American Jessica Pegula, the No 11 seed, in the next round.
Iga Swiatek advanced to the quarter-finals of the French Open by defeating Chinese underdog Qinwen Zheng 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-2 at Stade Roland-Garros on Monday evening.
Swiatek, ranked No 1, will next play No 11 seed Jessica Pegula.
In the previous rounds of the French Open, Swiatek won against Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko (6-2, 6-0), American Alison Riske (6-0, 6-2) and Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-3, 7-5). The 20-year-old Pole has now won 32 matches in a row.
Zheng, ranked No 74, had previously defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska (6-3, 6-1), Romanian Simona Halep, the No 19 seed (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Alize Cornet (6-0, 3-0, ret.).
