Alert: Zverev defeats Ruud to reach Roland-Garros final
Alexander Zverev defeated Casper Ruud in four sets on Friday evening at Roland-Garros. Zverev is through to his second Grand Slam final and first at this tournament.
Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, booked his spot in the final of Roland-Garros by beating Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 on Friday.
Zverev will battle Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz for the title on Sunday.
The German’s run to the final also included victories over Spaniard Rafael Nadal (6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3), Belgian David Goffin (7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-2), Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 26 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (3)), Dane Holger Rune, the No 13 seed (4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2) and Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 11 seed (6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4).
Ruud secured his spot in the semis by beating Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves (6-3, 6-4, 6-3), Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3), Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 28 seed (6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2), American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed (7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed (W/O).
