Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, won the Roland-Garros trophy by edging out Czech Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Saturday.

Ahead of her victory, Swiatek, ranked No 1, defeated Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-4, 6-0), American Claire Liu (6-4, 6-0), Chinese Xinyu Wang (6-0, 6-0), Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (5-1 ret.), American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 14 seed (6-2, 7-6 (7)).

Muchova, ranked No 43, beat Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed (7-6 (5), 7-5), Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 0-6, 6-3), Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 27 seed (6-3, 6-2), Russian lucky loser Elina Avanesyan (6-4, 6-3), Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (7-5, 6-2) and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed (7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 7-5) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
