Roland-Garros: Swiatek safely through to last 16 against Bouzkova

Iga Swiatek moved into the last 16 of Roland-Garros by beating Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-2 in Paris.

The two-time defending champion was in clinical form, breaking her opponent four times in total. Despite the one-sided scoreline, Swiatek was made to work for the win, needing four match points to get over the line against an opponent who refused to fold in the late stages.

The world No 1 is now on a 15-match winning streak, all of these coming on clay courts, while she is on a 17-match unbeaten run at Roland-Garros.

Swiatek will play Anastasia Potapova next after the Russian came through a lengthy encounter against Xinyu Wang.

Ahead of her victory, the Pole won against French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean (6-1, 6-2) and edged out Japanese Naomi Osaka (7-6 (1), 1-6, 7-5).

Bouzkova, ranked No 42, defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 29 seed (6-2, 6-4) and Croat lucky loser Jana Fett (6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
