Roland-Garros: Ruud makes last 16, Fritz next

Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, won against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 28 seed, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 to move into the last 16 of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Saturday evening. Ruud, ranked No 7, will play American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Norwegian beat Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves (6-3, 6-4, 6-3) and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3).

Etcheverry, ranked No 29, edged out Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4) and benefited from the abandonment of Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (3-6, 6-7 (8), 6-1, 5-0) in the previous rounds of the Roland-Garros 2024.
