Roland-Garros: Pliskova bounces back to reach second round in Paris
Karolina Pliskova defeated Tessah Andrianjafitrimo in three sets and will next meet French wild card Leolia Jeanjean in the second round
Former world No 1 Karolina Pliskova came from a set and an early break down in the second set to reach the second round of Roland-Garros to beat French wild card Tessah Andrianjafitrimo in Paris on Tuesday.
30-year-old Pliskova lost the first set to Andrianjafitrimo, ranked No 141 in the world, and lost her first service game in the second set before bouncing back to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in two hours and four minutes.
The Czech hit 35 winners and 33 unforced errors to Andrianjafitrimo’s 20 winners and 17 unforced errors in the match.
Ranked No 8 in the world currently, Pliskova missed the first few months of the season due to injury and made her 2022 debut in Indian Wells in March.
She won only 2 matches in her first six events before reaching her first semi-final of the year in Strasbourg last week.
Pliskova will next meet another French wild card, Leolia Jeanjean, in the second round.
