Roland-Garros: Pera gets past testing Cocciaretto encounter to reach last 16 in Paris
Bernarda Pera defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-4, 7-6 (2) and will play the winner of the match between Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 7 seed, in the next round
American Bernarda Pera advanced to the last 16 of Roland-Garros by winning against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-4, 7-6 (2).
Pera, ranked No 36, will face the winner of the match between Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 7 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the American defeated Estonian Anett Kontaveit (7-6 (6), 6-2) and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 22 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-3).
Cocciaretto, ranked No 44, won against Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 10 seed (6-3, 6-4) and Swiss qualifier Simona Waltert (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
