Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 9 seed, won against Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the second round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris.
Ostapenko, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between German Tatjana Maria and Dane Clara Tauson next.
