Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 17 seed, advanced to the second round of Roland-Garros by defeating Czech Tereza Martincova 6-3, 7-5 at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Monday evening.
Ostapenko, ranked No 17, will face American Peyton Stearns next.
