Navarro upsets Keys in all-American match at Roland-Garros
Emma Navarro knocked off Madison Keys in two tight sets to reach the Roland-Garros fourth round on Saturday. Navarro will next face Aryna Sabalenka.
No 22 seed Emma Navarro advanced to the last 16 at Roland-Garros with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) upset of No 14 seed and fellow American Madison Keys on Saturday evening.
Navarro failed to serve out the match at 5-4, but she held easily at 5-6 to force a tiebreak and never looked back. The former NCAA singles champion seized a 6-1 lead in the ‘breaker before converting her third match point at 6-3.
Navarro will go up against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, for a place in the quarter-finals. Ahead of her victory the world No 24 defeated qualifier Zeynep Sonmez (6-2, 6-0) and Italian qualifier Sara Errani (6-2, 7-5).
Keys, ranked No 12, beat Mexican Renata Zarazua (6-3, 6-2) and Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6-0, 7-6 (7)) earlier in the tournament.
