Czech Karolina Muchova moved into the final of Roland-Garros by edging out Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 7-5 at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday afternoon.
Muchova, ranked No 43, will face the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 14 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the French Open, the Czech won against Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed (7-6 (5), 7-5), Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 0-6, 6-3), Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 27 seed (6-3, 6-2), Russian lucky loser Elina Avanesyan (6-4, 6-3) and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (7-5, 6-2).
Sabalenka, ranked No 2, defeated Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (6-3, 6-2), qualifier Iryna Shymanovich (7-5, 6-2), Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 6-2), American Sloane Stephens (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
