Roland-Garros: Jabeur reaches French Open quarter-finals for the first time
The Tunisian will play Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo or Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 14 seed, for a place in the semis
Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 7 seed, moved into the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros by winning against American Bernarda Pera 6-3, 6-1 in Paris on Monday.
This is the first time in six main draw appearances (10 if you include qualifying draw appearances) that Jabeur has made it to the last eight in Paris. Her previous best performance was a fourth round finish in 2020 and 2021. The Tunisian has now reached at least the quarter-finals of all four Grand Slams at least once.
“It was the only Grand Slam missing. I’m very happy with the performance, with the way I was, you know, playing, especially coming back after an injury. I was just taking it one match at a time, trying to make it to the second week. Now I’m gonna push more for the next few matches. Yeah, hopefully better than a quarterfinal final here, looking for a semifinal.”

Jabeur, ranked No 7 in the world, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 14 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Tunisian beat Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-4, 6-1), Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin (6-2, 6-3) and Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
Pera, ranked No 36, won against Estonian Anett Kontaveit (7-6 (6), 6-2), Croat Donna Vekic, the No 22 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-4, 7-6 (2)) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
Jabeur now leads the head-to-head between the two players by 2-1, avenging her loss to Pera in 2019. The result is also a big improvement over last year when the Tunisian was knocked out in the first round after entering the tournament as one of the favourites.
