Roland-Garros: Gauff races past Cocciaretto to reach quarter-finals

American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the last eight of Roland-Garros.

Gauff, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Dane Clara Tauson and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous rounds, the 20-year-old American won against Russian qualifier Julia Avdeeva (6-1, 6-1), Slovenian qualifier Tamara Zidansek (6-3, 6-4) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 30 seed (6-2, 6-4).

Cocciaretto, ranked No 51, beat Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-1), Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-1, 6-4) and Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 17 seed (7-6 (4), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
