Roland-Garros: Fognini sets up second-round clash against Van de Zandschulp

Fabio Fognini defeated Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in straight sets to reach the second round at Roland-Garros on Sunday

Italy’s Fabio Fognini advanced to the second round of Roland-Garros by beating Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in Paris on Sunday afternoon.

Fognini, ranked No 52, will face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp next.

Van de Zandschulp scored a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Pavel Kotov in another first-round match on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Fognini was a quarter-finalist at the French Open in 2011 and has reached the round of 16 on two other occasions.
