Alert: Andreeva wins three-setter against Sabalenka in Roland Garros quarters
Mirra Andreeva advanced to her first Grand Slam semi-final with a huge upset of world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka on Wednesday at Roland-Garros.
Russian Mirra Andreeva advanced to the Roland-Garros semi-finals by edging out Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 at Roland-Garros in Paris on Wednesday afternoon.
Andreeva, ranked No 38, will face Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 12 seed, on Thursday.
The 17-year-old previously beat American Emina Bektas (6-2, 6-3), Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 19 seed (6-3, 3-6, 7-5), American Peyton Stearns (6-2, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva (7-5, 6-2).
Earlier in the tournament Sabalenka ousted Russian Erika Andreeva (6-1, 6-2), Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima (6-2, 6-2), Spaniard Paula Badosa (7-5, 6-1) and American Emma Navarro, the No 22 seed (6-2, 6-3).
