Badosa pulls out of Roland-Garros after stress fracture in her spine
The Spaniard was seeded 29th for the French Open, where she reached the quarters two years ago
Former world No 2 Paula Badosa, of Spain, has pulled out of Roland-Garros, which starts on Sunday, after suffering from a stress fracture in her spine.
The 25-year-old was seeded no 29 in Paris but pulled out hours before the draw was to be made. In a post on social media, Badosa said, “Just when everything seemed to be fine again, I received bad news just before the starting a Grand Slam. At the tournament in Rome, I suffered a stress fracture in my spine. It has been very hard news after such a difficult start to the season with injuries.”
“This is going to keep me out of competition for some weeks” – Badosa
Badosa added that she would be out of action for some weeks and also thanked her fans for their unwavering support. “This is going to keep me out of competition for some weeks. Thanks to all of those who are with me no matter what. I’ll keep you posted. P.”
Badosa’s best Grand Slam performance came in Paris two years ago when she reached the quarter-finals, her only one at a Major so far.
The Spaniard started the season as world no 13 before sliding out of the top 40 in late April. A good clay court season saw her rebound to no 29 in the rankings after a 17-8 record for the season.
