WTA Rankings: Swiatek begins 31st week as world No 1 as top 10 remains static
Italians Paolini and Cocciaretto make big moves after winning titles last week
Poland’s Iga Swiatek leads the WTA rankings for the 31st consecutive week as the world’s top 10 remains static this week. Swiatek’s 31-week reign is the 15th longest in WTA history and with the Pole assured of ending the season as world No 1, she will pass Angelique Kerber (34 weeks) and Amelie Mauresmo (39 weeks) on the list. The next player ahead on the list for most weeks as world No 1 is Victoria Azarenka, who was at the top of the rankings for 51 weeks.
With only one WTA $125K tournament last week and the season-ending WTA Finals kicking off on Monday, there is no change in this week’s top 10.
Swiatek is followed by Ons Jabeur (No 2), Jessica Pegula (No 3), Coco Gauff (No 4), Maria Sakkari (No 5), Caroline Garcia (No 6), Aryna Sabalenka (No 7), Daria Kasatkina (No 8), Veronika Kudermetova (No 9) and Simona Halep (No 10). The top 8 players will be in Fort Worth, Texas this week for the season-ending WTA Finals.
In the top 20, Ekaterina Alexandrova moves up one spot to No 19, swapping positions with Liudmila Samsonova who drops to No 20.
Italians Paolini and Cocciaretto make big moves in the WTA rankings top 100
Two Italian women make big moves in the top 100 this week. 26-year-old Jasmine Paolini, who won the ITF $100K title in Spain last week, climbs 15 spots to No 63 while 21-year-old Elisabetta Cocciaretto jumps15 spots to No 64 after winning the WTA $125K Challenger in Mexico.
Former top 40 player Rebecca Marino moves up five positions to No 67 after reaching the semis in Mexico. The Canadian has been on the rise after several years of personal struggles – she was ranked No 145 at the start of the 2022 season and was outside the top 300 at the start of 2021.
