The post-Wimbledon rankings find Jasmine Paolini and Lulu Sun in new terrority. See all the risers
This week’s WTA rankings show plenty of movement post-Wimbledon. The tour welcomes a new top-five member, and also sees Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova return to the top 10.
Read on for more about this week’s ranking risers…
Welcome to the top five, Jasmine Paolini!
Italy’s Paolini is rewarded for a dreamy six weeks that saw her reach the final round at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon by cracking the top five for the first time. The Italian, who became just the fifth WTA player to reach the final at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon final in the same season since 1999, has now won 15 matches and lost three at the majors in 2024.
Krejcikova returns to the top-10
Almost forgotten at the start of the grass season, riding a five-match losing streak, Barbora Krejcikova put together a run for the ages at Wimbledon and claimed her second major title by defeating Paolini in Saturday’s women’s singles final. The Czech, a former world No 2, jumps 22 spots to return to the top 10 at No 10 for her efforts.
Collins back in the top-10
Outside of the top 50 at the start of the season, American Danielle Collins continues to rise in the rankings in her last season on tour. The Florida native, who plans to end her career at the conclusion of the 2024 season, jumps two spots to No 9 after reaching the second week at Wimbledon (defeated by Krejcikova).
Sun rising!
Qualifier Lulu Sun was one of the biggest stories of week one at Wimbledon. The first player from New Zealand to ever play a Wimbledon quarter-final reached the quarter-finals in her Wimbledon and Grand Slam main draw debut. The talented southpaw took out Zheng Qinwen and Emma Raducanu along the way, and finally fell to Croatia’s Donna Vekic in three tough sets in the last eight.
Sun is the biggest riser inside the WTA’s top 100 this week, popping from 123 all the way to 53.
Career-highs for Navarro, Shnaider
American Emma Navarro, who made quite a splash at Wimbledon with wins over Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff on Centre Court (eventually defeated by Paolini in the quarter-finals), jumps to a career-high ranking of 15, while Russia’s Diana Shnaider, who lost to Navarro in the third round, also reaches a career-high by jumping to No 28.
American women currently own five of the top-15 spots in the WTA rankings, for the first time since 2004.
