World Tennis League: Medvedev loses to Falcons’ Fritz but Eagles win tie
Eagles and Falcons are now first and second in the table respectively
A bizarre spell of overtime meant Daniil Medvedev had the honour of concluding a resounding win for the Eagles over the Falcons – but he did it in unusual style, in a 6-4 defeat.
Both teams are now on 75 points, and at the top of the table.
Fritz thought he had won the match against Daniil Medvedev 6-3 – meaning it went into overtime, with the Eagles needing to win one more game to wrap up the tie, and the Falcons needing three more to force a super tiebreak.
Neither player seemed to realise what was happening after shaking hands when the American took his sixth game, but they resumed quickly, with Medvedev serving a fiery game to finish things off in under a minute, giving Fritz a 6-4 win.
Kenin super-happy
Sofia Kenin’s superb form continued in the singles, beating Sorana Cirstea 6-4. The Romanian looked markedly frustrated in the latter stages of the match, with her forehand particularly wild.
“I’m super happy,” said Kenin, who admitted it had taken her a little while to get to grips with the format. “I was always [determined] when I was small, it’s not something you can teach!”

Kenin/Andreeva beat Cirstea/Zvonareva 6-4
