Auger-Aliassime stars for Kites in win over Hawks at World Tennis League
The Canadian put the Kites top of the standings
Felix Auger-Aliassime was the star of the day as he went out twice over and picked up two victories to seal the Kites’ clean sweep and a triumph over the Hawks.
Kites are now top of the table with 77 points, with every team now having played two ties.
The Canadian paired up with Sania Mirza to beat Alexander Zverev and Elena Rybakina 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.
A returning Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova put up a good fight for the Hawks against world No 1 Iga Swiatek, who triumphed in the women’s singles 6-4, 6-3.
And then after Holger Rune withdrew from the men’s singles due to a back issue, Auger-Aliassime pulled double duty to take on Dominic Thiem.
A tiebreak was necessary to decide the first set in Auger-Aliassime’s favour, and he then only needed two more games to confirm his team’s overall win – finally getting the edge over Thiem 7-6, 7-6.
