Poland’s Swiatek and Hurkacz to lead United Cup in Perth, Greece’s Tsitsipas and Sakkari head to Sydney
The groups for the 2024 United Cup have been confirmed
Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz lead the United Cup action in Perth, it has been confirmed.
They will face Spain and another team to be confirmed in Group A at the RAC Arena.
The official draw – helmed by Australian legends Mark Philippoussis and Casey Dellacqua along with Wally Masur – took place on Monday.
Group C also play in Perth, comprising Australia, USA, and Great Britain; as do Group E, with Czechia, China, and Serbia, including Novak Djokovic.
In Sydney, Greece, featuring Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, lead Group B, who take on Canada and another team to be confirmed.
Also in Sydney, Angelique Kerber returns from maternity leave to represent Germany alongside Alexander Zverev in Group D, facing France and Italy.
Finally, Group F consists of Croatia, Netherlands, and Norway.
In a new format for 2024, each tie will be determined in one session and is made up of one men’s singles and one women’s singles match featuring the country’s No 1 ranked singles players, followed by one mixed doubles match.
Perth’s RAC Arena will host the first day of the United Cup on Friday 29 December, with the group stage in Sydney beginning on Saturday 30 December.
Group winners will advance to the quarter-finals, along with the best runner-up from each city.
Winners of the quarter-finals will progress to the semi-finals and finals in Sydney which will be played on 6 and 7 January.
