Six Kings Slam: Sinner thrashes Medvedev in first quarter-final match, Alcaraz also through
World No 1 Jannik Sinner was imperious, dominating Daniil Medevdev to win 6-0, 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the Six Kings Slam exhibition
Jannik Sinner dismantled Daniil Medvedev in the first quarter-final at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The world No 1 took apart the Russian 6-0, 6-3 in a one-sided display that saw Sinner sail into the semi-finals. He will meet Novak Djokovic in the last four after the Serbian was given a bye into the next round. It will be a repeat of their recent encounter in the final of the Shanghai Masters, which Sinner won.
Sinner looked imperious throughout. Breaking three times in the opener and twice in the second, without reply, this was the Italian’s most comfortable victory against Medvedev in all of their 15 meetings, with the Russian cutting a frustrated figure throughout.
“It’s a very good performance, especially considering that I arrived here a short time ago to prepare for this match,” Sinner said following the win.
“It’s a special place, it’s a brand new tournament. The people are very welcoming and kind here, the atmosphere was very good.
“Winning the first Grand Slam of the season gave me confidence but also the will to improve.”
In the following match, Carlos Alcaraz got his campaign off to a winning start against Holger Rune, beating the Dane comfortably 6-4, 6-2 to join Sinner in the semi-finals where he’ll meet fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
