Olympics: Ebden/ Peers guarantee Australia a silver medal after reaching men’s doubles final
The Australian duo will face Americans Rajeev Ram/ Austin Krajicek in the final on Saturday.
Australian duo Matt Ebden and John Peers have reached the gold medal match in the men’s doubles event at the Paris Olympics after a straight sets win over American third seeds Taylor Fritz/ Tommy Paul.
Ebden/ Peers got the first break of the match in the 12th game of the opening set to win it 7-5. They then jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second set before closing the match 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 34 minutes.
The Australian duo will face another American team – the fourth seeds Rajeev Ram/ Austin Krajicek – in the final on Saturday.
This will be the first Olympic medal for Ebden while Peers already has one to his name: he won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alongside Ash Barty.
