Nishikori to return to the tour in end-May with three back-to-back ATP Challengers
The former world No 4 has not played since the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, after which he was sidelined by a hip injury
Former world No 4 Kei Nishikori has confirmed that he plans to comeback to the game at the ATP Challenger in Little Rock, Arkansas at the end of May, following which he will play ATP Challengers in Texas and Puerto Rico.
The 33-year-old has not played an official match in a year and a half. His last appearance on tour came at Indian Wells in October 2021, following which he has been on the sidelines due to a hip injury for which he also underwent surgery.
Nishikori has made several attempts to comeback to the sport over the past few months, but was forced to keep postponing them in order to recover fully.
The Japanese player has won 12 ATP singles titles and more than $25 million in career prize money. He is also the only player from his country to make the top 5 in the world rankings in the Open Era.
Nishikori also reached the 2014 US Open final, making him the first Asian male player to reach a Grand Slam singles final. He also won the bronze medal at the Olympics Games in 2016.
