Nadal signs up to play Laver Cup in September
The Spaniard says he wants to make the most of every opportunity he has before he ends his career
Rafael Nadal has committed to playing in this year’s Laver Cup, which will be held in Berlin from September 20-22.
The 37-year-old, who last played for Team Europe in 2022 when Roger Federer competed in his last event, has suggested this is likely to be his last year on Tour and says he wants to enjoy his time on court as much as he can.
Nadal joins Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev on Team Europe.
“At this stage in my career I really want to go out there and make the most of every opportunity I am given,” Nadal said in a statement issued by the Laver Cup.
“Teaming up is always an incredible experience and I have always enjoyed it, the competition is different and exciting. I’m looking forward to going to Berlin and helping Team Europe win back the Laver Cup.”
Nadal returned to the ATP Tour in Barcelona last week after three months away, playing in only his second event in 16 months due to hip surgery and most recently abdominal issues.
The United States has won the two most recent Laver Cup events.
