Absent from the tennis courts since his defeat in the second round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games against Novak DjokovicRafael Nadal‘s much-anticipated comeback has been further delayed after he announced his withdrawal from the Laver Cup, which takes place in Berlin from September 20 to 22.

The 38-year-old had posted photos of his training sessions in recent days, raising hopes that he might be back in action soon, but he is not yet ready to play in the team competition with Team Europe. After this revelation, the Spaniard wanted to reassure his fans with a further statement.

After being asked about his condition at the inauguration of the Espacio Movistar in Madrid on Thursday, the 22-time Grand Slam champion was keen to play down the situation.

“Mentally, I’m fine, I have no problems,” Nadal said.

“I’m at home, I’m enjoying other things, I’m training as much as I can every day. There is no drama, obviously these are decisions that are made, and it was a possibility – it’s been a while since I’ve participated in a competition. There will be someone else who can do better,” he continued.

“For the moment, I am not in a position to comment on anything. I said I’d play until the Olympics and then we’ll see, and I’m in that rest period.”

The Mallorcan is currently scheduled to play at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia in mid-October along with Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune.
