Laver Cup teams set as Paul, Shelton, Hurkacz, Monfils join for Vancouver edition
The sixth edition of the Laver Cup will be held from September 22 to 24 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver
The teams for Laver Cup 2023 have been finalized with both Team World and Team Europe announcing the final set of players for the Vancouver edition, which will be held at the Rogers Arena from September 22 to 24, 2023.
Team World captain John McEnroe announced that Americans Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton along with Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo will join Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger-Aliassime in his team.
Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg picked Hubert Hurkacz and Gael Monfils to join Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev in his team.
14th ranked Tommy Paul said he was looking forward to competing for the first time in the tournament after coming as an alternate last year. “I had a front row seat and supported my Team World teammates to victory in London, and I’m pumped that this year in Vancouver, I will be able to step on court at Rogers Arena and directly contribute to the outcome,” Paul said.
Shelton, one of the most promising youngsters in the game today, is also excited to be part of the team. “I’m so grateful to Captain McEnroe for inviting me to be part of the team and am excited to learn from all my teammates and coaches and contribute however I can.”
French veteran Gael Monfils will also make his debut in the event at the age of 36 and said it was a privilege to be part of the team. “I’ve never been part of the Laver Cup before and to be selected at this stage in my career is really such a privilege,” said Monfils. “I want to thank Bjorn for giving me this opportunity. I plan to make the most of it for myself and the team!
This will be the sixth edition of the Laver Cup with Team Europe winning the first four before Team World won for the first time in 2022.
