Federer wanted it, and he got it! Alcaraz to play Laver Cup in 2024
Carlos Alcaraz has announced that he will play for Team Europe in Berlin in 2024
Just over a month after the end of the sixth edition of the Laver Cup, won by Team World in Vancouver, Roger Federer got his early Christmas present. The Swiss, who said he wanted to see Carlos Alcaraz represent Team Europe next year in Berlin, has been granted his wish.
This Wednesday, in a video posted on the Laver Cup’s social networks, the 20-year-old Spaniard officially announced his participation in the seventh edition of the team competition created by Federer, which will take place in Berlin from September 20 to 22, 2024 . This will be the first time in his career that he will play for Team Europe.
“I am super excited to have Carlos join Team Europe in Berlin,” said captain Björn Borg. ““I’m leaving no stone unturned for 2024. The goal is to win and having Carlos commit to Team Europe’s cause is a thrilling start to what I anticipate will be an exceptional roster.”
Alcaraz: It’s a great honour
“I appreciate Captain Borg’s confidence in me, and I look forward to teaming up with my rivals in both singles and doubles in Berlin,” Alcaraz said. “It means a lot to represent Team Europe at Laver Cup, this is a great honour.
“I will do whatever is asked of me to win back the Cup for Team Europe. I can’t wait to hear who will be joining me on the team next September.”
After winning the first four editions, Team Europe lost the battle to Team World in the last two years, in London and then Vancouver.
