“I’m looking forward to coming back stronger at Paris 2024” – Djokovic

Djokovic will be 37 years old when the next Olympic Games come around but the Serb is already set his sights on coming back for another medal

After ending his Tokyo Olympics campaign on a rather disappointing note, world No 1 Novak Djokovic has said he is already looking forward to coming back stronger at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Paris 2024 Games will see the tennis event being held at Roland-Garros, where Djokovic has won the French Open twice in his career.

Djokovic looked to be the heavy favourite for the singles gold medal in Tokyo after reaching the semi-finals. Once there, he went a set and a break up on Alexander Zverev before going down in three sets. Zverev went on to win the singles gold medal whereas Djokovic went on to lose the singles bronze medal play-off to Pablo Carreno Busta the next day.

Djokovic also lost in the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event where he was partnering with Nina Stojanovic before pulling out of the mixed doubles bronze medal match due to injury.

In a post shared on social media on Wednesday, Djokovic stated, “It was a true privilege to represent #SRB at the Olympics. Thank you #Tokyo2020 and everyone that helped us come together for the magic of sport. I know in my heart I gave it everything to fight for a medal, and I’m looking forward to coming back stronger at #Paris2024.“

Djokovic expected to return at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati

Djokovic’s next scheduled event on the tour is the Western & Southern Open Masters 1000 series event in Cincinnati, which kicks off on August 15. The Serb is not competing at the National Bank Open (Canadian Open) Masters Series next week.

Djokovic will be aiming to win his 21st Grand Slam singles title at the US Open, which begins on August 30 in New York City. The final Grand Slam of the season will be keenly watched by tennis fans with Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all tied at 20 Grand Slams each.
