Estonia’s Anikina wins Auray Super 12
A young Estonian is the new champion of a prestigious tournament for under-12s
Elizaveta Anikina is the Auray Super 12 girls’ champion for 2024, beating Korana Barisic 6-2, 6-4.
The Estonian did not drop a set en route to the title.
Anikina also made the final of the girls’ doubles, with Romanian partner Eva Maria Bulai, but lost 7-5, 6-4 to Barisic and Beata Maresova – so taking the singles triumph was a significant measure of revenge.
Anikina – born in 2012 – is part of the Champ’seed Foundation, created by Patrick Mouratoglou and dedicated to spotting and developing future tennis champions.
The Auray Super 12 is the most prestigious tournament for players aged under 12, with former girls’ champions including both Brenda and Linda Fruhvirtova, Anastasia Potapova, Alize Cornet and perhaps most impressively Kim Clijsters.
