Norrie leads Great Britain into Davis Cup finals
Great Britain will feature in the group stage of the 2023 Davis Cup finals after their win over Colombia
Cameron Norrie was the star of the show as Great Britain returned to the Davis Cup finals, defeating Colombia 3-1 in Cota to book their place in the 16-team group stage.
The world No 11 won both his singles matches in straight sets, with his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nicolas Mejia providing the Brits with their third and winning point of the weekend.
Praise was also due to the scratch doubles pair of Dan Evans and Neal Skupski, who put their country ahead with a 6-4, 6-4 win over the experienced duo of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
“Hats off to the players,” said captain Leon Smith. “They came down to Colombia, most straight from Melbourne, came earlier than we’d ever normally do for Davis Cup, which is a big commitment from them, but we did that to prepare best for what happened these past two days, and it’s definitely paid off.
“There’s a lot of work that the players have done to be able to adapt in a short space of time, and they went out and they fought really hard.”
