Evans, Ymer give Britain and Sweden early lead in Davis Cup
Sweden are on the brink of qualifying for the next stage in the Davis Cup Finals
Elias Ymer scored a straight-sets win over Mikhail Kukukshkin to give Sweden a 1-0 lead over Kazakhstan in a Group B encounter at Madrid on Saturday. Ymer needed one hour and 50 minutes for the win.
The Swedes, who had already won their first tie against Canada, look set to top Group B with Elias’ brother Mikhail taking on Alexander Bublik in the second rubber of the tie later today.
Also on Saturday, Dan Evans got the Brits off to a winning start with a win over France in Madrid, Spain.
The Brits, who are playing their first tie at the Davis Cup Finals this week, got off to a 1-0 start with Evans winning 7-5, 6-4 over Mannarino in Innsbruck, Austria in the Group C encounter.
