Ons Jabeur reached the biggest final of her career to date – and made yet more history – after she beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday with a brilliant display at the Mutua Madrid Open.
The Tunisian, seeded eighth this week, became the first Arab woman to reach a Masters 1000 final, cruised through in just over one hour.
“I’m very glad with my performance. I tried to impose my rhythm and I’m very pleased with the way I played today,” said Jabeur, after beating Alexandrova for just the second time in eight meetings.
She’ll play either 12th seed Jessica Pegula of the United States or Swiss Jill Teichmann in the final.
Alexandrova had come through qualifying to make the last four but Jabeur was too good, too consistent, too aggressive and too smart as she reached her sixth career final.
