ATP rankings – Ruud back to No 4, career-highs for Sinner, Tiafoe
Casper Ruud is on the rise once again after a brilliant week on the clay in Estoril. See who else is rising up the rankings on the ATP Tour on Monday April 10.
It was a relatively quiet week at the top of the ATP rankings. Novak Djokovic remains at the top of the table, with Carlos Alcaraz a close second, but there were some important changes inside the top 5, top 10 and top 20.
Join us for a rundown of this week’s ranking news…
Ruud rises to No 4 (+1)
Former world No 2 Casper Ruud leapfrogs Daniil Medvedev on the strength of his 10th career title at Estoril. The Norwegian is 105 points clear of the Russian ahead of this week’s play in Monte-Carlo.
Sinner flip-flops with Rune (+1)
Neither player was in action last week, but Holger Rune drops 35 point from his rankings which allows Jannik Sinner to vault clear of the rising Dane into the No 8 spot in this week’s rankings.
Sinner, who owns an impressive 21-5 record in the season, is at a new career-high.
Tiafoe rising again (+4)
Last year at this time Frances Tiafoe was ranked 30th in the world, but a lot has changed since. The American continues to inch in the direction of the top 10, thanks to steady play week-in and week-out on tour. This weekend he claimed the title at Houston, winning all four of his matches in a two-day span. Career title No 2 for Tiafoe places him ahead of Karen Khachanov at No 11 in this week’s rankings.
Tiafoe will have chances to move higher this spring – he is only defending 260 points from now until the end of Roland-Garros.
Carballes Baena Top 50 debut (+33)
Winning a second career title has propelled Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena to a career-high ranking and a top 50 debut. The 30-year-old Spaniard jumps 30 spots to No 49 after claiming the title at Marrakech.
France’s Alexandre Muller, who fell to Carballes Baena in the final, makes his top 100 debut, rising from 126 to 96.
Etcheverry rises to career-high (+14)
Though he lost in Sunday evening’s final in Houston, Tomas Martin Etcheverry slides into a career-high as well, rising 14 spots to No 59.
