ATP rankings: De Minaur, Fils reach new career highs – Musetti jumps nine spots
The Australian has risen to the world #6 spot, a new career high, whilst Jannik Sinner maintains his status as #1
Despite withdrawing from his quarter-final match at Wimbledon vs Novak Djokovic, Alex De Minaur reaches a new career high of world No 6 on the latest ATP ranking update, leapfrogging Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole retired while down match point in the second round of Wimbledon vs Arthur Fils, with the Frenchman backing up the win with a five-set victory over Roman Safiullin. Fils was deservedly rewarded with a jump in his position in the rankings, from No 34 to 28, which also represents a new career high.
However, the biggest rise in the top 40 belongs to Lorenzo Musetti, who made the semi-finals of a major for the first time in his career – before losing out to the runner-up Novak Djokovic (6-4, 7-6, 6-4). The Italian rises by nine places, and takes his place as the 16th-ranked ATP player, just one spot below his career high.
No Changes in the top five
Jannik Sinner fell just one match short of his 2023 Wimbledon performance, defeated by Danill Medvedev in the quarter-finals (7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 3-6), losing 320 points. Despite this, the world No 1 retains his position at the very top of men’s tennis and leads Novak Djokovic by 1110 points, a sizeable lead heading into the second half of the tennis season. The Serbian and Carlos Alcaraz both repeated their efforts at SW19, with the Spaniard retaining his title by defeating Djokovic in a straight sets final drubbing (6-2, 6-2, 7-6), and remain as the No 2 and 3, respectively.
Likewise, Danill Medvedev remains world No 5, falling to Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals for a second year in a row at Wimbledon (7-6, 3-6, 4-6, 4-6), with Alexander Zverev extending his lead over the Russian to 490 points – reflecting his fourth round effort, the furthest the German has reached since 2021.
Mpetshi Perricard makes top-50 debut
One of the biggest stories of week one at Wimbledon also sees a notable bump. 21-year-old Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the lucky loser who fired 51 aces in a first-round win over Sebastian Korda, and continued to push into the second week, where he was defeated by Musetti, rises 14 spots and makes his top-50 debut at to No 44.
That means that France, with Fils and Mpetshi Perricard, has the two youngest players in the current ATP top 50.
