“At this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win” – Nadal pulls out of Laver Cup
The Spaniard’s upcoming schedule and his future remain uncertain at this point
Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal has pulled out of next week’s Laver Cup, which was expected to be his first competition since the Paris Olympics in late July.
In a statement posted by the Laver Cup social media handle, Nadal said, “I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. This is a team competition and to really support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them and at this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win.”
It looks like Nadal will not make the trip to Berlin to cheer his teammates from the stands as he mentions in the post that he would “be cheering them on from afar.”
“I have so many great, emotional memories from playing Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and with Bjorn in his final year as Captain. I wish Team Europe the very best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar,” Nadal said.
It remains unclear at this point if Nadal plans to play any other event on the calendar this year or if he plans to continue playing into 2025.
Nadal’s replacement in Team Europe has yet to be announced.
