“75 percent of what I’m capable of” – Bianca Andreescu believes she’s destined to hit a much higher level
Bianca Andreescu is in the process of rebuilding her confidence – and her ranking – and believes that she hasn’t even begun to realise her full potential.
Last week at Indian Wells when Emma Raducanu was asked what percentage of her potential she had tapped at this fledgling state of her career, she said, oh, about 35 percent.
Her fellow former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu wouldn’t take it quite that far, but the Canadian does believe that there is a great deal of largely untapped potential in her game.
Andreescu – 75, 80 percent of what I’m capable of
“I feel like there’s always room for improvement even if I’m feeling like I’m at 100 percent, but I know I’m never at 100 percent because there’s so much that I know I can learn, getting to know my body as well through the years, and just kind of keeping momentum,” Andreescu said on Friday after battling past No 7-seeded Maria Sakkari in three sets to reach the third round at the Miami Open.
“I think it’s super important, and I feel like I’m starting to get that now a little bit. So with all of that, I feel like I’m at, I would say, 75 percent, 80 percent of what I know I’m capable of.”
Fearless and fit
Andreescu says that the key to her rejuvenated form is playing fearless tennis and trusting her talents.
“I think it’s just another step in gaining most of my confidence back,” she said after snapping a five-match losing streak against top 10 players on Friday. “I’m feeling really good on the court. I’m trying to be as fearless as I can be.
“It’s not always easy, but I feel like I’m getting there, and wins like this obviously help with that because at this point I think it’s just me getting matches in and playing tough rounds like this and knowing I can win.”
