Kerber’s swansong continues, defeats Fernandez
The German is competing in her last tournament before retirement

Angelique Kerber is not quite ready to bid farewell to tennis yet. Her retirement tour continues at the Olympic Games with a third-round win over Leylah Fernandez of Canada, 6-4, 6-3.
Her opponent in the last eight will be Zheng Qinwen, who beat Emma Navarro 6-7 (7), 7-6 (4), 6-1.
She is joined in the next round by another player set to step away from the court, the USA’s Danielle Collins, who beat Camila Osorio 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Collins will play either Iga Swiatek or Wang Xiyu in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova beat fourth seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.
