Carlos Alcaraz reveals Olympic dream of doubles with Nadal
This isn’t the first time he’s mentioned it – Carlos Alcaraz is very keen to play doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Olympic Games
He’s world No 1, he has two Grand Slams, but he’s also thinking about the possibility of Olympic medals – and Carlos Alcaraz knows who he’d like to win one with.
He fancies a shot at the men’s doubles alongside compatriot Rafael Nadal, who will return to tennis in what looks like a farewell tour in 2024, taking in the Paris Games at his beloved Roland-Garros.
“Hopefully I can play against him again,” Alcaraz told Spanish radio station COPE, in quotes translated by claytenis.
The pair have met each other three times on tour, with Nadal winning the first two encounters, but Alcaraz winning the most recent, in the Madrid quarter-finals last year, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
But the 20-year-old would prefer to have Nadal on the same side of the net, as he’s said before, and explained this time: “It would be a dream. Not only to win a medal at singles or doubles, but just to live the experience of a doubles with your idol would be a memory that I would keep with special affection.”
Nadal won the gold medal for men’s singles in 2008, and partnered Marc Lopez to gold for men’s doubles in 2016.
